Wide Horizon’s Workshop on Professional Boundaries, Ethics, and Child Protection.


Wide Horizons is a 2 -Year leadership development program dedicated to building the capacity of young adults from Burma to work effectively in civil society organizations. BBP was asked to provide a workshop to the young adults enrolled in the program. The workshop was focused on developing safe working practices for adults that work with vulnerable children and youth.

  • Ethical standards for human service professionals
  • Professional boundaries for adult volunteers in the social care environment
  • Safe, acceptable, and effective behavior by workers
  • Safeguarding adults and children
  • Child abuse
  • Ethical Behavior/Reporting

Mental Health Workshop for Shoklo Malaria Research Unit (SMRU)


This workshop was provided 3 times for two days each time. The 2-day training was divided into 8 segments, which included an overview of mental health, and the development of assessment and basic micro counseling skills. BBP trained over 100 medics, midwives, and nurses.

  • Depression
  • Grief
  • Coping and Trauma
  • Postnatal wellbeing

As a result of the SMRU training, a quick guide to giving advice and doing counseling was developed for midwives, medics, and nurses. The booklet has been requested by NGO’s and CBO’s in the community and will be widely distributed in English, Burmese, and Karen language.

Reproductive Health Class for Young Women Residing at OutPour Boarding Houses


This class was provided to young Karen women (ages 14-21) currently residing in an Outpour boarding home. Due to cultural sensitivity and bias, reproductive health is not freely taught in schools. Through this class these young women, most of whom were in their late teen years, learned about their reproductive system and healthy sexuality.

Classroom Management Skills for teachers at the Child Development Center (CDC)

13319749_1451609101531291_1245197829039322752_nThe Child Development Centre (CDC) is the migrant school in Mae Sot that is part of Mae Tao Clinic. In June 2016, BBP offered a workshop to teachers at CDC school.

Teacher Capacity Workshops

In order to ensure the sustainability of educational programs, BBP provides evidence-based capacity training to teachers and staff at boarding homes and migrant schools.
