Karen Women’s Organization (KWO)

In 1999, BBP was asked by The Karen Women’s Organization to finance the construction of a “Boarding House” (orphanage) at Mae La Camp, the largest refugee camp along the Thai-Burma border. Although the initial construction cost was modest, for many years the yearly cost of operations was significant and BBP was supported in this effort mainly by the B. K. Kee Foundation. A total of 130 young men and women were in residence during the time BBP funded the operations of this facility. With BBP bearing the increased costs of expanding its full time presence and staff along the border devoted to its work in mental health, BBP was not able to continue its support of the boarding house after 2008.
